KARWAR: Six people sustained burn injuries on Wednesday when a
fishing boat caught fire 6km off Karwar. Three of them suffered serious injuries and were shifted to the
Karwar Medical College Hospital. The injured people are said to be out of danger.
The incident took place when purse-seine fishing boat ‘Jalapadma’ with 20
fishermen on board was near
Anjudeev Island. The boat caught fire after a blast in its battery. Some fishermen, however, said that a technical snag caused the fire. The fire spread fast due to heavy wind. Another fishing boat in the vicinity rushed to rescue.
Efforts were on to pull the boat, owned by Vaman Harikantra, to the shore.
