Last year, visitor numbers to Egypt increased 55.1 percent to 8.6 million, a major turnaround.
The number of international tourists in Egypt raised from 14.7 million in 2010 to 5.2 million in 2016 after the deferral of flights following a Russian charter jet drowning and the disorder after the uprising that toppled former president Hosni Mubarak.
France maintained its 2016 No1 position in the most-visited list with 86.9million visitors, defeating Spain into second place (81.8million) and the USA into third (75.9million).
The statistics were released by the United Nations World Tourism Organization in its year-on-year tourism highlights report.
Egypt draws visitors to the likes of Giza and Luxor, who come to find out the great pyramids and the Sphinx.
In the meantime, resorts in and around the Red Sea attracts visitors who are keen for beach holidays and provide stunning diving.
The second-fastest growing destination is the African country of Togo, which experienced a 46.7 percent rise in visitors.
