The brand just launched their first signature line of footwear.
The leaves begin to fall, so you bust out the boots. Winter snow starts to softly descend from the sky, so you put away the thin suede in favor of thicker rubber. Spring comes and with it so do your sneakers. In the summer come sandals. It's all a cycle, punctuated by fashion trends and avoiding costly purchases in favor of unsustainable footwear.
Here's thing: footwear is way too expensive and important to keep going out of style. And Mr. P, online retailer Mr. Porter's in-house fashion brand, is making sure that you stop spending on shoes you'll simply put away when the seasons change or abandon when trends follow suit.
"It’s never about putting them back in their box after three months," style director Olie Arnold says about the brand's newly-launched shoe collection. Instead, they focus on three enduring principles: "Super premium quality. Enduring style. Slight contemporary edge."
These 11 shoes, each designed based on observations of what the team saw real men actually wearing, prove exactly that.
As Arnold says, "Footwear should transcend a season." These boots work as fall go-to office wear or for formal winter nights. According to the sit, the boots have been made in a small Italian workshop.
They're not for the faint of heart, but they're pretty damn cool. These have a "commando, heavy-duty sole in a very rich burgundy." In particular, Arnold loves the "strong shape" and how they pair with just about anything.
White sneakers are a standard and as long as you can keep 'em clean, you're good to go. They answer one of the team's biggest questions through the design process: "What were the sorts of shoes that a guy would have in his wardrobe to help him go from day to night to the weekends?"
Fashion meets function. According to Arnold, these are "a classic hiker," but with a twist. "It's got this luxurious finishing with black shearling lining," Arnold says. "The leather itself is weather-proof with functionality to it."
As an "inclusive collection for men who appreciate well-made, stylish clothes," the line isn't without its fair share of comfortable sneakers, including this black suede pair.
They're sharp. They're shiny. They're intimidatingly cool. These brogue boots combine “functionality and versatility." According to Arnold, "those two words shouldn’t be boring but should be integral to the design" and these prove exactly that.
And when you want to feel like a dapper badass and/or James Bond lookalike, you need a pair of polished, black derby shoes. They don't just have to be for formal events, though. For the brand, the collection was about "creating a footwear collection that gave versatility, so that men could have more wear out of the shoe," Arnold says. No suit required.
Listen, loafers aren't everyone's game. But if you're going to dip your toe in the water (or the loafer, in this case) this pair is neutral enough to try.
Your hiking boots just got an upgrade. Old meets new with the help of these vintage-inspired and high-quality suede boots, which sit comfortably atop a rubber-crepe sole.
They're like your usual dress shoe, but a little bit quirkier. These take on a new silhouette, but without being too trendy or try-hard for more classic, neutral tastes.
They're not your grandpa's loafers. Instead, the shoes are "inspired by and really look at what men wear today." The upside is that they very well transcend across different trends and generations, so you just might want to cop a pair, no matter your age.
