By new chief for alleged involvement in corruption

Days after it was reconstituted, a member of the Delhi Waqf Board allegedly involved in corruption was suspended by its newly elected chairman and Aam Aadmi Party MLA Amanatullah Khan.

Mr. Khan, the party’s Okhla legislator, was re-elected to the post of chairman on Tuesday. On Wednesday, he issued the suspension order of K. Alam Farooqui, a section officer, accused of allegedly being involved in the illegal sale of a property belonging to the Board.

“...Mr. K. Alam Farooqui, section officer, has engaged himself in activities pre-judicial to the interest of the Delhi Waqf Board which have resulted in the financial loss to the Waqf Board...a disciplinary proceeding is contemplated against him...” an office order issued in Mr. Khan’s name stated, adding that he had been placed under suspension with immediate effect.

An interim report related to the charges against Mr. Farooqui was tabled in the Delhi Legislative Assembly in January this year. It was followed by the questions and reference committee of the House recommending that the chief secretary initiate criminal proceedings against him for “his alleged acts of commission and omission in connivance with others in alleged illegal sale of dargah property” in Chirag Dilli.

“Waqf Board Officer Mr Farooqi was found involved in Corruption by Delhi Assembly Committee. There was no action under L-G saab. In absence of Chairperson, he was being protected, Corruption was flourishing...[sic.],” tweeted AAP MLA Saurabh Bharadwaj.
