17 accused men were booked under Goondas Act today for raping a 11-year-old speech and hearing impaired girl for six months by threatening her at knifepoint in Ayanavaram which came to light on July 15.

The identification parade of the 17 accused in the minor girl rape case was held at the Puzhal Central Prison on 25th of July and the victim identified all of them.
The incident which came to light on July 15 shook the nation as 17 men who were employed as maintenance staff of a gated community in Ayanavaram repeatedly molested and raped the girl over six months by injecting sedatives.
The girl’s elder sister found out the marks on her body and inquired her after which she narrated the harrowing incidents. All the accused, who were working as lift operators, security guards, gardeners, electricians and plumbers, were arrested under POCSO Act and remanded in judicial custody within two days.
After the incident, the residents of the posh apartment removed all the outsourced workers and began to manage the operations among themselves. The victim was given medical care as well as protection, while the family has been shifted to an undisclosed address.
