In a first, IT department to launch 'Slum to Scholar school' for underprivileged kids

LUDHIANA: In another social initiative of the income tax department Ludhiana, a school will be launched by the department for the under privileged children. This was stated by chief commissioner of income tax Binay K Jha during inauguration of an art exhibition of paintings made by students of close to 100 schools of Ludhiana at the Grand Walk Mall office of the department.

Speaking on the occasion CCIT Jha said, "On Income Tax Day i.e 24th July 2018, the schoolchildren from senior and junior wings of around 100 Schools of Ludhiana participated in a painting competition titled "Swatchcha Bharat Samriddha Bharat". As promised at that time we are now organising an exhibition of the winning paintings which are more than 300 in number and this exhibition is open to public and schools, school children and their parents up to September 19th"

Giving information about the initiative for setting up schools, Jha said, "We are soon going to launch another initiative which is the establishment of a school for the children in Rishi Nagar, who do not have access to education. This school will be supported by the department and its employees under the 'Slum to Scholar' initiative where some leading schools have agreed that their students would be ready to forgo a pizza a month and with the money saved being pulled to support the education of children of migrant labour and others who cannot afford education. For this initiative the industry has also come forward to support the program that will provide school and even skill development technical training to the children who complete class 10 so that they can become self-dependent. The aim is to cover around 35000 such children in the near future. The officers and staff of the Income Tax Department, Ludhiana have agreed to voluntarily support the initiative"

According to department an award ceremony too will be organised on the concluding day and best painting awards will be given to the students across different categories. Other senior IT officials present on the inauguration ceremony today included Principal Commissioners of Income-Tax, Ludhiana, R Bhama, DS Chaudhary, Avdhesh Kumar Mishra and Rajeev Ranjan Singh, Commissioners of income tax (Appeals) Ludhiana, Alok Kumar, Pirthi Lal, Abha Rani Singh, Parvinder Kaur, Additional and Joint Commissioners Ritesh Parmar, Rajinder Kaur, AK Dhir, Manav Bansal, B K Singh, Apul Jaiswal.
