SURAT: A man was arrested for abetting his wife’s suicide in Pandesara on Tuesday. He was demanding Rs15 lakh from his wife’s parents and also suspected her of having an affair with his elder brother.
The woman, who was mother to three children aged 11, 8 and 4 years, hanged herself from the ceiling fan of her room with a
sari on Monday midnight. Deceased’s parents registered a police complaint against son-in-law Satish Gupta accusing him of torturing their daughter for Rs15 lakh and suspecting her fidelity. He doubted her of having an affair with his elder brother for the past four years, they alleged.
The woman’s 11-year-daughter too told police that her mother was being tortured by her father. Police said they arrested the accused after recording the statements of family members. Gupta would be presented in the court on Wednesday.
