Share market update: Midcaps & smallcaps underperform Sensex; BEL, IGL, JP Power suffer
In the Sensex index, 13 stocks were trading with gains, but 18 were incurring losses.
NEW DELHI: Midcaps and smallcaps were underperforming Sensex in Wednesday's session.

Around 10:40 am, the BSE Midcap index was trading 0.52 per cent down at 16,281, while the BSE Smallcap index was trading 0.48 per cent down at 16,734. The BSE Sensex was 0.09 per cent down at 38,123.

Shares of Muthoot Finance (up 9.14 per cent), Biocon (up 4.27 per cent), Adani Enterprises (up 2.73 per cent), Shriram City Union Finance (up 1.80 per cent) and Divi's Laboratories (up 1.50 per cent) were among the top gainers in the midcap index.

Bharat Electronics (BEL) (down 6.74 per cent), Indraprastha Gas (IGL) (down 4.44 per cent), JSW Energy (down 3.24 per cent), Apollo Hospitals Enterprise (down 3.18 per cent) and Vakrangee (down 2.95 per cent) were among top midcap losers.

On the other hand, Sical Logistics (up 10.24 per cent), Dynamatic Technologies (up 8.30 per cent), Advanced Enzyme Technologies (up 8.14 per cent), Polyplex Corporation (up 5.53 per cent) and Kirloskar Ferrous Industries (up 5.34 per cent) were among the top smallcap gainers.

Rane Engine Valve (down 7.03 per cent), Jaiprakash Power Ventures (down 6.83 per cent), Allsec Technologies (down 5.34 per cent), Techno Electric & Engineering Company (down 5.17 per cent) and Diamond Power Infrastructure (down 5 per cent) were among the top losers in the smallcap index.

Market sentiment was sombre amid weak global cues and precarious health of Indian rupee.

In the Sensex index, 13 stocks were trading with gains, but 18 were incurring losses.

Sun Pharma, YES Bank and Wipro were leading among Sensex scrips.

Coal India, Hindustan Unilever and ONGC were among the top losers in the Sensex index.
