Universities to have new dress code for convocation in November

PATNA: Patna University will hold its next annual convocation in November as per the provisions of the latest statute and costume design for organizing and conducting the convocations at the universities approved by chancellor Lalji Tandon.
PU vice-chancellor Rash Bihari Prasad Singh said the university had written a letter to the chancellor for permitting it to hold its convocation in October, but now the time of convocation has been changed to November according to the fresh statute. The exact date of convocation will be decided shortly, he said.

In supersession of the earlier statute in vogue since September 7, 1983, the revised statute and costume design has been approved by the chancellor on the recommendation of a three-member committee comprising Nalanda Open University vice-chancellor R K Sinha, Lalit Narain Mithila University VC S K Singh and Kameshwar Singh Darbhanga Sanskrit University VC S N Jha.

All the universities in the state have now been asked to hold the annual convocation in November and, in exceptional case, in December with prior permission of the chancellor. The chancellor or the vice-chancellor (in the former’s absence) will preside. The syndicate may invite an eminent person to address the convocation. The syndicate may, on the recommendation of the academic council, decide to award honorary DLitt, DSc or LL.D degree to an eminent person by virtue of his or her outstanding contributions to the furtherance of education with the permission of the chancellor.

Members participating in the academic procession and recipients of degrees shall wear the academic costumes as prescribed in the statutes. The male degree recipients will wear white kurta-pyjama or dhoti-kurta, while female degree recipients will be required to wear white salwar and lemon yellow kurti or sari with red border and red blouse. Both male and female scholars will wear lemon yellow Malaviya pagadi, yellow angvashtram with red border bearing university logo.

All the guests on the dais except the chancellor will wear the same lemon yellow colour pagadi, but the chancellor will wear white colour pagadi. The colour of jackets to be worn by the guests will be chancellor (cream), VC and pro-VC (golden), chief guest (orange), other dignitaries (brick colour), registrar and university officials (sky blue) and honorary degree recipients (navy blue).

Teachers’ Day celebrations: Students of Jesus and Mary Academy celebrated Teachers’ Day on their school campus on Tuesday.

The event began with ‘Guru Vandana’ and poem recitation. Students presented an array of programmes to show their love and respect for teachers.

School director Ambrose Patrick thanked the teachers for their contributions.
