Yakub Koyyur, teacher of Government Kannada Medium High School, Nada village, Belthangady, and Shankara, headmaster of Government Higher Primary School, Madhya Chelyar, are among the 30 teachers who will receive the State-level best teacher award in Bengaluru on Wednesday. Mr. Koyyur has set up a laboratory in the school that has helped less-than-average students grasp the fundamentals of mathematics easily.
He was also the resource person for mathematics for last year’s preparatory classes, through video conference, for class 10 students of government schools in the State.
Mr. Shankara has been recognised for his work in reviving the school, which was on the verge of closure. He brought together alumni and social organisations to meet the school’s infrastructure needs. He was instrumental in opening an anganwadi on the school premises and having a bus facility for students. The initiatives have helped in taking the number of students to 160.
