Incidents of theft are not new but one would be taken aback to know that a file pertaining to a murder case was stolen from the table of the concerned judge hearing the case while the court was closed on public holidays.

The incident is of Ghaziabad Civil-Court where the file was stolen from the table of Additional District & Sessions Judge I (ADJ-I) while the court was closed due to holidays. However, the accused, an ex-employee of the court, have been identified on the basis of CCTV footage and has been sent to judicial custody.

After the aforesaid file went missing, a complaint was registered by the Reader to the ADJ-I Subhash Chand Arora, a copy of which was forwarded to Kavi Nagar Police Station.

The FIR states that the case number 511/1996 , State verses Satpal and other residents of Pilkhuwa under section 302 of IPC was fixed for arguments on August 9,  but lawyers being on strike the case could not be heard hence the file was put on table of Judge for the next hearing on August 17, and the room was locked subsequently.

For next three days (August 10, 11 and 12) happened to be public holidays the court remained closed only to reopen on August 13. However the file pertaining to the case was found missing from the table while other files were found intact.  Due to which the court was adjourned without hearing as fixed for August 17.

On September 1 the entire CCTV footage was screened and it was found that on 11 August, one Tara Chand an ex-clerk of the same court was seen coming through the officer's gallery to the judge's chamber and was also seen returning carrying one file in his hand.

Hence it was evidently proved that the file pertaining to the murder case had been stolen by him.  The complaint is being submitted for the necessary action.

“After registering complaint under section 379, the accused Tara Chand has been arrested and produced before the court which sent him to judicial custody” said Pradeep Kumar Tripathi, Inspector Kavi Nagar.
