The Congress party on Tuesday organised a novel protest to expose Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s ‘false claim’ that Nayee Brahmins were being charged domestic tariff for power supply to their saloons.
TPCC chief spokesperson Sravan Dasoju along with leaders of Nayee Brahmin Association held the protest near the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in Gandhi Bhavan premises where the community members shaved the beard of a few persons while raising slogans against the KCR government.
Addressing a press conference later, Mr. Sravan said that the GO MS No. 1, which was issued on January 6, 2016 by the Backward Classes Welfare Department converting power consumption charges from Commercial Category to Domestic Category for hair cutting saloons in Telangana, has remained unimplemented. He said all the hair cutting saloons are still paying their power bills as per commercial tariff. How can the Chief Minister utter lies at the Pragati Nivedana Sabha, he asked.
Even the promise of constituting a governing council of Nayee Brahmin Federation has remained a non-starter, he said.
Mahila Congress dharna
Telangana Mahila Congress president Nerella Sharada met the school teachers of Kasturbha Gandhi residential schools, who were arrested for staging a dharna demanding regularisation of their services as promised.
Ms. Sharada said the TRS party had promised to regularise their services and enhance the basic pay and when reminded of the promise made, the government chose to arrest them, she said and went on to add that the Congress will take care of them once it comes to power.
