Surat: A 36-year-old man from Bharuch’s Valia taluka was stabbed to death in Beira city of Mozambique on Tuesday by robbers on Tuesday. They tried to burn his body but escaped fearing arrest.
Saukat Aadam Mammuji, 36, a resident of Siludi village had gone to Mozambique to work in a provision store. He had left behind his three young children, wife and his family members to earn a living.

According to reports, Saukat was sleeping in his house when the gang members entered to carry out a robbery. Saukat could not retaliate as there were four to five persons.

Saukat had left his native village to settle in Mozambique about one-and-a-half-year ago.

“We received call from relatives in Mozambique and Saukat’s friend about his murder. His body was not in condition to be brought back as robbbers had tried to burn it. So the last rites were performed in Beira and his body was buried there itself,” said Saukat’s father, Aadam Mammuji.

Earlier, many youngsters from Bharuch and nearby villages who have gone to South Africa and other African countries in search of employment have been killed for one or the other reasons.

Aadam Mammuji said, “We have lost our bread winner, but we want the district administration and the Government of India to ensure that no other Saukat is killed in Africa.”
