Stocks end mostly lower as tech weakness weighs on Nasdaq, S&P 500

Stocks ended mostly lower Wednesday, with weakness in tech shares weighing on the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq. The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, -0.05% bucked the soft tone, ending with a gain of around 22.5 points, or 0.1%, near 25,975, according to preliminary figures. The S&P 500 SPX, -0.46% fell 0.3% to end near 2,888.60, while the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite COMP, -0.88% slid 1.2% to finish near 7,995.17. Shares of Twitter Inc. TWTR, -5.01% fell more than 6% and Facebook Inc. FB, -2.69% lost 2.3% as executives defended company policies in testimony before lawmakers on Capitol Hill.
