THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The cabinet sub-committee, constituted to review the flood relief measures, met on Tuesday and decided to complete the disbursement of immediate financial assistance of Rs 10,000 for each family this week. Necessary instructions have been given to revenue authorities and all district administrations.
If necessary, the sub-committee has asked department heads to depute more officials to ensure smooth disbursement of the compensation announced by the government. The subcommittee said that disbursement of the compensation should be completed before September 7. Compensation should be given to those families whose members were reported missing. The guidelines followed during Ockhi disaster should be followed. During Ockhi disaster, government had distributed compensation to families of missing people.
The sub-committee also decided to utilize more pumps to drain out water that is still clogging
Kuttanad region. At present, 53 pumps are being used to drain out water. A decision was taken to convene adalats to help people who lost valuable documents. Kudumbashree units will be disbursing the relief materials provided by various agencies to all affected families. Also, textbooks have reached the schools in all districts and disbursement will begin soon.
Garbage management has restarted and 32,000 tonnes of non-biodegradable
waste have been collected. In 160 panchayats, garbage treatment areas have been identified.
