Left parties to take out bus yatra from Ramayapatnam on September 8

Activists of the Communist Party of India (CPI) and the CPI (Marxist) went on a day-long fast against the neglect of Prakasam district by the State and the Central governments and demanded it be declared backward.

The activists, led by CPI Prakasam District secretary M. L. Narayana and CPI(M) East Prakasam unit secretary P.Anjaneyulu raised slogans demanding adoption of a resolution by the State Assembly during its monsoon session urging the Centre to include the district in the list of backward districts under the Andhra Pradesh State Reorganisation Act, 2014.

MLAs from the district should press the Chandrababu Naidu government in this regard or else resign, they added.

The district should be provided a special development package of ₹10,000 crore, they said, days before a bus yatra by CPI State secretary K. Ramakrishna and CPI(M)State Secretariat member Y.V. Rao from the coastal village of Ramayapatnam on September 8.

The State government should immediately recommend the Centre to construct the second public sector port sanctioned to the State at the village, they said.

The government had struck a “raw deal” with the district by not considering it for starting any big projects sanctioned by the Centre or educational institutions, they said.

The Left parties would come out with a joint action plan on September 15 and project an alternative to the ruling Telugu Desam Party(TDP) and the opposition YSR Congress Party in the State, they said.
