Pimpri Chinchwad is third fastest growing city in the country

PUNE: In the last two decades, Pimpri Chinchwad is the third fastest growing city in the country. Many people from the state are coming to Pimpri Chinchwad. The development rate is around 70 %. Pimpri Chinchwad municipal commissioner Shravan Hardikar said that he wants to promote ease of doing business and quality of life for citizens by ensuring efficient citizen centric smart governance by 2030.
"Online payments is around 50 %, and 20 % opportunities are there in the twin township. Wi-Fi inclusivity will be there in the next few years. City cleanliness, increase of pollution, non-motorized transport, 100 % segregation, water usage, increase of solar power, upgradation of education and employment, building permissions, start-ups, and water recyling, are the factors that would be working on", Hardikar said.

"Walking and cycling is around 14 % at present. In 2030, the municipal corporation would like to promote walking and cycling by 50 %". Public transport is at 18 % now. The civic body wants to promote public transport by 50 %. There are 12 fatal accidents per one lakh population. By 2030, there will be zero fatal accidents", Hardikar stated.

Several non governmental organizations, environmental organizations, various colleges, Jal Dindi, senior citizens, social groups, and country director Barbara Stankivihokova of Palladium of the city transformation office attended the meeting.

For Pimpri Chinchwad, a strategic plan would be developed based on the worldwide best practices from the cities like Birmingham, Rio, Santiago, Tel Aviv, Kualalumpur, Mexico, Manchester, Stutguard, and Barcelona.
