42 NCC cadets to sail on Godavari

A group of 42 NCC cadets, including 14 girls, will set out on an 11-day sailing expedition in the Godavari river from Bhadrachalam on September 5.

Deputy Director-General, NCC Directorate (Andhra Pradesh and Telangana), Air Commodore N. N. Reddy will flag off the expedition in the temple town on Wednesday morning.

The sailing team will comprise 75 personnel, including two officers of Indian Navy and 42 NCC Naval wing cadets and support staff from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana NCC Directorate, sources said.

The expedition forms an essential part of the adventure activities of the NCC aimed at developing qualities of discipline, self-confidence and camaraderie besides exploring nature’s splendor.

The sailing boats will negotiate the nerve testing rapids at various points in the river and transit through the picturesque Papikondalu hills between Kunavaram and Devipatnam in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh.

The expedition will conclude at Samalkot in Andhra Pradesh’s East Godavari district on September 15.

Meanwhile, Air Commodore N. N. Reddy has reviewed the arrangements for the sailing expedition in Bhadrachalam on Tuesday. Earlier in the day, he inspected the 11 Telangana NCC Battalion in Khammam. Group Commander, NCC Group Headquarters, Warangal, Colonel Sanjay Rajain, Commanding Officer Colonel Rajender Malik, Subedar Major Tarun Kumar Manna of the 11 Telangana NCC Battalion were present.
