The Nun: Live your nightmares with this Conjuring spinoff

The Nun seems to be another fright-fest in The Conjuring franchise that is based on Valak, the nun that we first saw in The Conjuring 2. Though she was dispatched to hell by Vera Farmiga's psychic Lorraine Warren at the end, The Nun will tell us her origins or at least the early days of her hauntings. The film is set in a Romanian abbey in 1952, where a young nun has committed suicide. To investigate the suicide, a Catholic church priest, Father Burke, arrives at the abbey and teams up with a novitiate.

Taissa Farmiga (sister of Vera Farmiga who plays the role of Lorraine Warren in The Conjuring movies) stars as Sister Irene.

Father Burke is played by Mexican actor Demián Bichir.

Bonnie Aarons returns as Valak, the nun. Bonnie also played the role in The Conjuring 2 and made a brief appearance in Annabelle: Creation.

The Nun's promos suggest most of it is set in cramped areas inside the abbey. This film could be a claustrophobic's nightmare.

The Nun is a particularly scary ghost/demon as her very appearance, even when she is still, is like that of somebody who is spine-chillingly otherworldy.

There is a particular shot in the film's teaser when the protagonists reach a door, a message on which states, "God ends here," in Latin ("Finit hic deo").

There are going to be many exciting, edge-of-your-seat scares in The Nun.

The film is shot on actual Romanian locations.

The Nun releases on September 7.
