Vadodara: Chain snatchers had a field day in the city on Wednesday as they targeted four women within two hours in different areas.
Police have begun search for the gang by scanning CCTV footages of the spots where the incidents occurred. This is second time in little over a month when chain-snatchers have targeted several women within a matter of hours.
The first incident happened at about 7.15am when 60-year-old Nivedita Vashi was passing from Harni. Two men riding on a motorbike approached her on the wrong side of the road and the person riding pillion snatched her gold chain worth Rs 35,000. Before Vashi could realize anything they fled from the spot.
At 8.30am, the bikers reached Wadi area and targeted a 76-year-old woman Jaya Dave. The chain-snatchers approached Dave when she walked out of a temple in Wadi Chelli Pol. One of them snatched her gold chain worth Rs 60,000 before speeding off. Soon after, they reached Fatehpura area and zeroed in on 57-year-old Ila Prajapati who was standing outside her house. The bikers approached her under the pretext of inquiring for an address. The pillion rider suddenly snatched her gold chain worth Rs 70,000 following which the duo fled from the spot on their bike.
One more woman’s gold chain worth about Rs 50,000 was also snatched by this gang near Vishalnagar in Tarsali area at about 9 am. But she refused to file police complaint, said a police official from Makarpura police station.
In July this year, a gang of chain-snatchers had targeted three women within 90 minutes. They looted gold chains worth Rs one lakh from the victims and disappeared. The police said that it has making efforts to track down such gangs who usually commit the crime and leave the city. The prevention of crime branch had arrested a history-sheeter earlier this year and he had admitted to have committed three chain-snatchings in the city.
