LUDHIANA: Rain and overcast conditions in the city ensured pleasant weather on Monday. The good and bad news for residents is that dry weather is likely to prevail in the next two days, followed by rain.

Since Sunday, overcast conditions prevailed in the city, and on Monday, similar conditions were seen until afternoon. On Monday morning, it rained and drizzled throughout the day in many parts of Ludhiana. According to the Met department, trace amount of rainfall was recorded in the city in 24 hours, from 8.30am on Sunday to 8.30am on Monday. The amount of rainfall from 8.30am to 5.30pm on Monday was recorded at 0.2mm.

The rainfall did make an impact on the maximum temperature on Monday, which was recorded at 29.7C (three degrees below normal). However, the minimum temperature was on the higher side at 24.8C (a degree above normal). Even the relative humidity in the city was on the higher side at 90% (10% above normal).

While residents are enjoying the pleasant conditions, they may not like the Met department forecast. “The weather is likely to remain dry in the next two days, and during this time, there are chances of slight increase of the temperatures. However, around September 6, there are chances of light to moderate rainfall, ranging between 20 and 40mm,” said Chandigarh Met department director Surender Paul. He added that the relative humidity was expected to drop in the coming days.

As per the department website, the maximum temperature is expected to rise to 34C until September 6, while the minimum temperature might rise to 26C. “It was very hot and humid recently, but rain and overcast conditions since Sunday brought us relief from the hostile weather. Last night, we didn’t use the AC for long, as we started feeling cold. Even today, we switched it off because we didn’t feel the need for it due to the pleasant weather,” said Harjinder Singh, a businessman from BRS Nagar.

Children too enjoyed the rainy weather. “It was raining in the morning, so I went outside to get drenched. As it was a holiday today, we also played cricket in the neighbouring park, because the weather was so pleasant,” said Harish Kumar, a 10-year-old from Pakhowal Road.
