THANE: Central Railway shifted the halt of fast local trains 90m towards the CSMT-end on platform 6 at Thane station from Sunday.
Mumbai-bound locals will now halt five coaches ahead from the earlier stop as CR wants to ensure maximum utilization of the new foot-over bridge constructed at the CSMT-end and reduce traffic on the Kalyan-end. Also, passengers often complained of a stampede-like situations during evening hours on the Kalyan-end bridges.

"The crowd will be evenly dispersed on the platform, leaving ample space for movement during peak hours, especially in the evening, when there is barely any space to walk freely," said an official at Thane. Officials said they will shift utilities like indicators, boards for ladies and reserved coaches. Announcements are also being made.

The change in halt was to be implemented from the first week of August but a motormen's stir delayed its implementation.
