7 booked for breaching Governor’s security

The traffic police have booked seven people on charges of rash driving as they tried to overtake the convoy of Governor Banwarilal Purohit on Sunday night.

According to police sources, the Governor was proceeding towards Raj Bhavan after a public engagement in Anna Nagar. While his convoy was proceeding on Sardar Patel Road, the motorcyclists on high-end bikes attempted to race ahead in spite of warnings from the police personnel.

Causing a breach in the Governor’s security, the motorists rode the two-wheelers in a rash and negligent manner near Raj Bhavan. They gave the slip to the police, who tried to intercept them. They continued to travel along with the convoy and attempted to race ahead. Police personnel managed to nab them at a signal.

The motorists have been identified as Arun, 22, of Maduvankarai, a welder by profession and pillion rider Ganesh, 23, a BPO employee; Mariya Antony Alex, 19, a college student, and pillion rider Hari Prasad, 19, an engineering student; Naveen, 26, M. Arch student and pillion rider Dinesh Kumar, 26, M. Arch student, and Yogesh, 24, a software employee.

They were arrested on charges of rash and negligent driving on public path and released immediately.
