GHAZIABAD: A homoeopathy doctor based in East Delhi has been arrested for allegedly conniving with a gang to stock and sell medicines worth crores of rupees that it had stolen from highways in Gurugram and Ghaziabad.
A medicine consignment of Mankind Pharmaceuticals worth Rs 1 crore was recovered from his house in Harsh Vihar on Monday. Several other cartons of medicines, allegedly robbed in Gurugram, were also found in the house.

Police said Dr Anil Kumar Singh had ganged up with a few members of the nomadic Sansi tribe of north India that had robbed a truck carrying Mankind medicines on the intervening night of August 13 and 14 in Ghaziabad.

Though he did not take part in the robbery, he had allegedly promised to sell the robbed medicines in the retail market and had offered the gang 70% of the proceeds from sales as commission.

Seven members of the gang were arrested on Monday, and the police said they were looking for four more.

On the intervening night of August 13 and 14, the gang had allegedly robbed a truck carrying a consignment of medicines worth around Rs 2 crore from a warehouse of Mankind Pharmaceuticals in Partapur, Meerut. “As soon as the truck entered Bhojpur area, the gang intercepted it in a Maruti Eeco. They threatened the driver and robbed a portion of the consignment worth around Rs 1 crore,” Ghaziabad SSP Vaibhav Krishna said.

An FIR pertaining to robbery was registered at Bhojpur police station on August 14, based on a complaint by the truck driver. “The doctor, it seems, had planned the robbery. He had promised the gang 70% of the proceeds from the sale of the robbed consignment as commission,” said Krishna.
