64 gamblers arrested in Palghar, raid yields Rs 1.6 crore

THANE: Sixty-four persons were arrested for allegedly gambling at a resort in Palghar district and cash, mobiles phones and vehicles totally worth Rs 1.6 crore were seized, police said on Monday.
The Palghar police, acting on a tip-off, raided the resort along the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway in Maljipada early on Sunday and made the arrests and seizure, superintendent of police Gaurav Singh said.

He said the 64, playing the card game 'teen patti', hailed from Gujarat, Mumbai, Thane and Palghar.

Rirish Shetty and Sanmit Shetty, and resort owner Harish Thakur were among those arrested, the SP said.

An official said that Rs 8.6 lakh in cash, 48 mobile phones valued at Rs 4.8 lakh and 10 vehicles worth Rs 1.5 crore were seized during the raid.

A case under various sections of Maharashtra Prevention of Gambling Act has been registered at Valiv police station, Palghar police spokesperson Hemant Kumar Katkar said. PTI
