BJP councillor gets threat calls, files plaint

Vadodara: BJP councillor Chandrakant Thakkar has registered a complaint of criminal intimidation against an unidentified person. Thakkar told the police that the accused approached him on Monday evening when he was at a temple in the old city. The police have launched a hunt for the man.
According to the police, Thakkar had gone to the temple for evening prayers when he got a phone call. The unidentified caller asked Thakkar to come out and talk with him. When Thakkar, a councillor from ward 14 refused, the caller insisted to meet. Thakkar then came out following which the accused asked him why he was harassing Dinesh Rana, a kerosene dealer.

Thakkar told him that he will call him later and asked the person to leave. The accused then threatened to kill Thakkar and left.

Thakkar had a showdown with Rana some days ago. The councillor had been allegedly asking Rana to vacate his shop near Mandvi but the later refused. Four days ago, when Rana’s shop was raided by district supply’s office.

Thakkar rushed to Rana’s shop and allegedly created ruckus there. He again asked Rana to vacate the shop but the latter refused. Rana too had approached the cops following the ruckus.
