Ahead of the upcoming assembly elections, Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee has made it compulsory for candidates to have a social media influence. In a letter to ticket aspirants, the Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) stated that, candidate must have 5,000 followers on Twitter and 15,000 likes on his/her Facebook fan page, reports from ANI. The individuals are also expected to like and retweet every post published by the state Congress  from their Twitter accounts.

Madhya Pradesh along with Mizoram, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh is scheduled to go to the polls in 2018. The MPCC set September 15 as the deadline for interested candidates to submit details of their social media presence if they want their names to be considered for party tickets. The upcoming Madhya Pradesh election is set to witness a great political fight between BJP and Congress not only on the ground but also on social media.

Shivraj Singh Dabi, BJP state IT cell in-charge, on Monday announced that about 65,000 ‘cyber warriors’ have been deployed by the party in the last three months. Talking about BJP’s strategy, Shivraj Singh Dabi said, “We are going to be doubly active on WhatsApp as it’s the biggest communication tool, specially to reach out to commoners and villagers.”

The state Congress on the other hand has set up a team of around 4,000 workers who are formally named ‘Rajiv Ke Sipahi’ to fight against the BJP on social media. Congress will also train more 5,000 workers for the elections, Dharmendra Bajpai, the state Congress IT cell in-charge, said. “We are going to hold training sessions in the state’s revenue divisions from June 25.”
