Police on Sunday registered a case of murder against Rakesh Sharma, alias Jassi, his brother Pradeep, Jaidev Jojo and Pompy. The main accused, Jassi, who owed Rs 5 lakh to Garg, and his accomplice Jojo are still at large.

Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Sandeep Garg said during interrogation, the accused said that Garg was murdered over a monetary dispute. “Jassi was reluctant to return the money. The accused said both Jassi and Garg had several meetings to settle the dispute, but to no avail,” the SSP said.

He said the police were also looking for call details of the accused and Garg to see whether they had any conversation on the day of murder. Police have launched a hunt to arrest Jassi, the SSP said.

“After Garg and Jassi had heated arguments over phone a few days ago, the accused started following Garg and were aware of his evening schedule,” an official said.

Family members told the police that Garg , along with his wife and children, used to go out for dessert after dinner. On Sunday, he got late and took along his wife, leaving the children at home,” the official said.

Garg was an active SAD worker and was close to former Union minister and Rajya Sabha member Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa, who had nominated him to the Railway Advisory Board.
