more-in

The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) may not be a force to reckon with in most parts of the State, but the Mayavati-led party with its moorings in Uttar Pradesh has managed to prove its electoral might in Kollegal, winning 9 of the 30 seats in the City Municipal Council (CMC).

After the party’s pre-poll understanding with the JD(S) in the Assembly elections saw its Kollegal candidate N. Mahesh not only win the polls, but also become a Minister, the BSP’s influence in the region is believed to be expanding.

While the JD(S) was unable to win even one seat, the Congress emerged as the single largest party in the 30-member Kollegal CMC with 11 seats. The BJP got six while Independents secured the remaining four.

BSP, which opened its account in the Mysuru City Corporation by winning one seat, has won a total of 13 seats in the ULB elections. The seats has it bagged include one each in Chamarajanagar CMC, Chincholi TMC in Kalaburgi district, and H.D. Kote TMC in Mysuru district.

Another Uttar Pradesh-based party, the Samajwadi Party, won four seats in TMCs.
