A teacher's role is not only to impart knowledge to their students but to also inspire and encourage us. And so, honouring such remarkable people in our lives Teachers Day is marked and celebrated as an important day across the world. While Teachers Day is celebrated in May first week in the United States, it is celebrated on October 5 in the United Kingdom. Meanwhile, in India Teachers Day is celebrated on September 5 every year which is also Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan's birth anniversary.


Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was the second President of India and he believed that teachers should be the best minds in the country. Being modest and humble in nature, when his friends and students urged him to celebrate his birthday, he appealed that he wanted people to celebrate it as Teachers Day in the country as a mark of respect and honour to all the teachers. And so, since 1962 Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan's birthday is marked as Teachers Day in India.
