GURUGRAM: Police on Tuesday
impounded around 30
vehicles from
Golf Course Road, acting on a complaint filed at the CM Window by RWAs of several societies, including Suncity, La Lagune, Orchid and Salcon The Verandas apartments.
Residents of these societies had expressed anguish about
commercial vehicles parked illegally in the area was causing huge inconvenience to them. They told TOI the parked commercial vehicles encroach upon the road so much that it causes a jam when school buses commute in the morning.
RWA members had previously complained to the deputy commissioner of police (traffic-east). “We filed our first complaint in October 2017, but no action was taken,” said VMK Singh, general secretary, Suncity Heights RWA. “Then, last month, we filed a complaint at the CM Window. On Saturday, police called us for a meeting. We described our predicament because of the encroachment. Finally, today, they took action against the vehicles and also impounded many of these.”
Residents said illegal
parking was an enduring issue in the area. “The big issue was of traffic jam triggered by these vehicles. There is Suncity World School nearby. During off-hours, the school buses had practically no way to commute. The entire stretch would be occupied by these vehicles. Our children were stranded in buses for hours at a stretch,” said Singh. “When schools closed in the evening, there was literally no place for pedestrians to walk.”
RWA members said they met police on Saturday and apprised them about the issue. On Tuesday, police moved to tow away the illegally-parked vehicles. “We’ve impounded nearly 30 vehicles today. The drive was carried out near Suncity township, Bikanervala restaurant and Vipul Plaza on Golf Course Road,” a traffic police official told TOI. “It’s likely to continue for about a week. But whether it will continue after that will depend on inputs from RWA members who filed the complaint.”
In their letter filed on the CM Window, RWA members had stated they were ready to help authorities resolve the issue. “There is a board flashing ‘No Parking’ placed prominently near Vipul Plaza. Despite that,
illegal parking continues unabated,” said another resident.
Residents also said the presence of parked vehicles posed safety hazards. “Our biggest worry is that with so many vehicles parked in front of Vipul Plaza, there is always a threat of accidents,” said Kuldeep Kohli, president, RWA, La Lagune. “The entire service lane has become a parking lot. We’ve disallowed all those who attempt to park their cars on it, but across the road, near Vatika, the entire stretch is occupied by illegally parked cars.”
