Ludhiana: The city adorned a festive spirit as devotees celebrated Janamashtami — birthday of lord Krishna — on Monday.
Temples across the city were decorated with love, devotion and freshly picked flowers for the occasion. Devotionally charged residents were seen thronging the temples to worship the lord. At some shrines, tiny tots were dressed up as little Krishna and Radha. The best dressed children got a chance to sit in a beautifully decorated palanquin.
Govinda gathered to form a human pyramid to fetch the dahi-handi prasad at Omaxe Residency, Pakhowal Road. Raas-leela was also organised by artists like Chandarkala from Varindavan at Govind Godham, Hambran Road.
Ajay Dhawan, president of Govind Godham Trust, said, “As many as 108 types of bhog were offered to lord Krishna and the lighting of the darbar was done using 3D effect. Artisans from Mathura came to decorate the idols of Krishna and Radha and special effects were given to them with the help of creative lightning techniques.”
Another sewak at Govind Godham, Sanjeev Sood Banka, said, “As the scene of Mathuranagri has been created at the temple, there is a huge rush of over 1.5 lakh people who come to witness the charm of the decorated idols. Devotees have been dropping in at Godham since 4am.”
Various dances were performed by professionals at temples across the city, including ISKCON temple, Bindraban Road, Govind Godham at Hambran Road, Durga Mata temple, Krishna temple and others. Devotees had a gala time on the pious occasion and even schools and colleges were seen celebrating Janmashtami with great zeal and fervour.
