NOIDA: After starting a
diversion at Parthala roundabout, the traffic police will do the same on a trial basis at
Gaur Chowk, another crucial roundabout plagued by congestion during peak hours. The diversion will be in place from 7am to 11am on Tuesday.
Commuters and heavy vehicles travelling to
Ghaziabad from Surajpur or Bisrakh won’t be allowed to travel straight towards Ghaziabad after entering the roundabout and taking a right turn. They will have to take a left turn from Gaur Chowk and take a U-turn about 2km ahead on Parthala road.
Similarly, those travelling from Shahberi and Tilapta towards NH-24, Tigri roundabout, Gaur City 1 and nearby areas won’t be able to take a right turn from Gaur Chowk.
They will instead have to take a left turn towards Parthala road and take a U-turn at Parthala roundabout.
According to traffic police officers, the trial aims to ensure that commuters coming from Surajpur or Bisrakh and Shahberi or Tilapta don’t disrupt traffic headed towards Noida and Noida Extension from Ghaziabad and nearby areas.
SP (traffic) Anil Jha told TOI that in the morning hours, the concentration on this route from the Surajpur/Bisrakh side is very low as compared to the other side. “The diversion aims to ensure that commuters travelling from Parthala towards Noida, Noida Extension and Surajpur have a smooth ride to their destination. There will be a similar diversion on the opposite side in the evening when the concentration of traffic is lesser on the Sector 71- Bisrakh/Noida Extension route,” he said.
Due to the second diversion, those travelling from Ghaziabad and Tigri roundabout towards Bisrakh won’t be able to travel straight. They will have to take a U-turn near the Shahberi roundabout and a left-turn ahead to head towards Bisrakh and Noida Extension. This diversion will be in place from 5pm to 10pm.
Traffic police, however, aren’t certain whether heavy vehicles travelling from Surajpur towards Ghaziabad will be able to take a U-turn from Parthala roundabout. “The trials will take place for two days, after which we will see if it can be implemented on a regular basis,” Jha said.
