Gupta slams AAP govt on ration cards

Leader of the Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, Vijender Gupta, on Monday attacked the AAP government over gaps in the Public Distribution System.

Mr. Gupta alleged that CM Arvind Kejriwal had ordered restoration of 2.53 lakh ration cards cancelled by the Food and Supplies Department, catering to seven lakh ration units, but was unaware of the identities of card holders.

“When the department asked the government to forward the names of those whose ration cards were rejected wrongly, the government, including the CM, Ministers and AAP legislators did not provide even a single name on record,” he said.

The AAP government, he said, should state how “it was so sure” even without an investigation, that ration cards cancelled by the department were “actually eligible for ration” in the first place.

“Seven lakh people got their cards were cancelled. 1.74 lakh people were added to the system in the last one month. What will be the fate of these poor on restoration of the rejected cards?” he said.
