Produced fake documents to claim loans from Axis Bank in Rabale

The Rabale police have registered a cheating case against a second-hand car dealer and two buyers for allegedly producing fake documents and claiming loans totalling ₹60 lakh from Axis Bank.

The police said the main accused, Vinodkumar Mishra, proprietor of New Ganesh Motors, is wanted in several cases registered with the Economic Offences Wing and the Andheri MIDC police. In January 2017, the buyers — Ronesh Pramod Bhandari and Vishnu Pandurang Dalvi — approached the Axis Bank branch in Rabale for loans to buy second-hand luxury cars.

Mr. Bhandari, a resident of Kandivali, sought a loan of ₹20 lakh to buy an Audi car, while Mr. Dalvi, a resident of Majiwada, wanted ₹40 lakh to purchase a Range Rover jeep. The duo applied for the loans through Mr. Mishra’s agency. Assistant Police Inspector Rahul Sonawane said, “The two cars for which Mr. Mishra provided papers do not exist. The role of the buyers will be clear only after they are arrested.”

Mr. Sonawane said the duo submitted registration certificate books, insurance papers and other documents of the two cars to apply for the loans. Mr. Bhandari and Mr. Dalvi received loans of ₹19.72 lakh and ₹39.32 lakh respectively.”

Suspecting foul play

He said, “When the duo stopped paying equated monthly instalments after a few months and failed to respond to its notifications, the bank verified the documents at the regional transport authority and found them to be fake. Mr. Sonawane said, “Vehicles with those registration numbers did not exist. The accused were not present at the addresses they had provided. We are hunting for them.”
