Urban local body polls : No clear verdict in North Karnataka

HUBBALLI: It’s a dead heat in many ULBs in North Karnataka. In Bagalkot district, where elections were held for 312 seats of 12 ULBs, BJP got 161 seats while Congress won at 122 seats. In Badami TMC, which falls in Badami assembly segment represented by former CM Siddaramaiah, Congress has a clear majority, winning 13 seats followed by BJP with 10.

While Congress won four ULBs — Chincholi, Chittapur, Afzalpur and Shahabad — in Kalaburagi district, BJP got power in 2 — Jevargi and Sedad — and Aland is still undecided. Of 6 municipal corprations, Congress won three and BJP two and one is hung.

In Bidar district, polling was held in Hallikhed TMC and Congress had a clean sweep, winning 14 of total 23 wards and BJP won in 5 wards, JDS in 3 wards and one independent won.

In Yadgir district’s three CMCs, BJP won in two, and Congress in one.

Of 39 seats in Kuditini and Kottur TPs in Ballari district, Congress won in 20, BJP 19 and three wards are occupied by independents.

JD(S) failed to open its account. Of total 19 seats at Kudutini TP, Congress got a clear majority by winning 11 while BJP won 8 wards. At Kotturu TP, BJP won 8 wards and Congress has got 9.

GADAG: Total: 6; Congress got clear majority in Ron TMC, Mulagund TP, Shirahatti TP. BJP got power at Gajendragada TMC and Naregal TP. Lakshmeshwara TMC is hung with BJP getting seven, Congress nine, JD(S) two and independents five.

KOPPAL: Of four ULBs; Congress got a simple majority in Koppal CMC and BJP got a simple majority in Yelaburga TP. Gangavathi and Kustagi witnessed a hung situation.

Congress got a simple majority in Mudagal TMC and Hatti TP in Raichur district, where elections were held for seven ULBs. Five ULBs are pushed to a hung situation; BJP failed to get a single seat at Sindhanur CMC, Manvi TMC and Hatti TP.

CONG, BJP SLUG IT OUT IN UK
Elections to ULB in Uttara Kannada has thrown up a mixed bag. The main fight was between Congress and BJP in all while JD(S) was completely decimated, drawing a blank in even one-time citadels Mundgod, Dandeli and Ankola. Among City Municipal Councils, Karwar threw up a hung result while BJP captured Sirsi and Congress Dandeli.

While BJP won Kumta by a thumping majority, Haliyal voted for Congress. Voters in Ankola have not given a clear majority to any party though Congress emerged the singlelargest party followed by BJP. Among two TMCs, Congress bagged Yellapur and BJP captured Mundgod. TNN

BJP WINS BIG IN UDUPI
BJP won in all four — Udupi City Municipal Council, Saligrama Town Panchayat, Kundapur Town Municipal Council and Karkala Town Municipal Council. These four ULBs in the district have 97 wards — 35 wards in Udupi, 16 in Saligrama and 23 each in Kundapur and Karkala.

BJP got power back in Udupi CMC with 31 seats. In Saligrama, BJP won with 10 seats against 5 seats by Congress and one independent. In Karkala, BJP and Congress won 11 seats each and one seat was won by an independent and in Kundapur, BJP won 14 seats, Congress 8 seats and one independent. In Udupi, Congress got only four seats and even sitting president of the house, Meenakshi Madhava Bannanje, lost in Kodavooru ward.

CHEMICAL ATTACK IN TUMAKURU
At least 20 Congressmen suffered burns after miscreants threw chemicals at them while they were celebrating victory of a party candidate in the Tumakuru city corporation election on Monday.

Congress candidate Inayutullah Khan and his followers were celebrating his victory from ward No 16 at around 1.30pm when miscreants threw a chemical that left them suffering a burning sensation. Around 20 people including Khan rushed to a nearby hospital where they are now being treated. Khan told TOI that he and his followers have no clue about the identity of the miscreants and that he has filed a complaint with the Tumakuru Town police. Khan won the election by a margin of 528 votes against his closest opponent, Ramkrishna, of Janata Dal (Secular).
