Woman levels charge against K’mal ex-MLA

Phulbani: A woman, Saibani Kanhar, of Gaudapada under the Phulbani Sadar police station has lodged an FIR against former MLA Devendra Kanhar alleging theft, use of filthy language, forcefully entering her house and administering drug to her with intent to hurt her. The police said investigation into the charge has been started and everything would be clarified after the probe.

Hindalco empowers women through tailoring skills

Bhubaneswar: The Hindalco Hirakud unit under its CSR initiatives for last seven years has been imparting tailoring skills to local girls and women. It has been imparting around its plant periphery in Dengimacha, Nuajamda, Nuagujatal, Rickshawpara, Gundurpara, Shaktinagar, Christianpara areas and parts of Hirakud town. Hindalco GM (Land and CSR) A Satyanarayan said over 500 girls and women have benefitted from the programme. Sambalpur cluster head Rajesh Kumar Gupta said economic empowerment of women has become a major development priority. When a woman is empowered, her family, especially her children, reap the benefits, which also helps increase the human development index, he added.

PPL holds safety training camp for drivers 

Paradip: The Paradeep Phosphates Limited (PPL) conducted a mega training camp for drivers on road safety here on Monday. The camp was conducted by the Sankha Dhwani Rasta Surakhya Samiti and inaugurated by Additional Transport Commissioner Samir Kumar Panigrahi and Project GM VP Jayashankar. The drivers also underwent eye testing and were given social security cover of Rs 2 lakh on road accidents along with Rs 1 lakh for treatment. This would be a great help to a driver’s family in case of an accident, said Panigrahi.
