Weather Update: Cold, rainy in the west but hot in north of SA

Rainfall is expected across the coastline and adjacent interior of the country, from the West Coast towards the Eastern Cape, as a cold front moves across SA on Wednesday.  

Warnings

Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over the eastern parts of the Northern Cape, Gauteng, the southwestern parts of Limpopo Valley and the Lowveld of Limpopo, the western parts and the Lowveld of Mpumalanga, the western parts of KwaZulu-Natal, the Free State, the North West and the northern parts of the Eastern Cape.

Rain

Rain and showers are except over the north and east interior of the Northern Cape and most parts of the Western Cape. Light rain is expected along the coast and adjacent interior of the Eastern Cape with some isolated afternoon showers.

Light snow is expected over the southwestern mountains of the Northern Cape and western mountains of the Western Cape as a cold front moves across the country.

The rest of the country remains dry.

Temperatures

Minimum temperatures are expected to be cold over the southwestern interior, while the rest of the country is expecting moderate temperatures.

The coldest place will be Sutherland in the Northern Cape, dropping to 2°C.

Maximum temperatures are expected to be hot to very hot in the upper northern parts of the country. Warm conditions are expected over the central interior, while cold conditions are expected in western regions of the country.   

The warmest places will be Skukuza in Mpumalanga and Musina in Limpopo, reaching a high of 37°C.

Pretoria is expected to reach a high of 32°C, Johannesburg a high of 30°C and Bloemfontein a maximum of 29°C.

Along the coast, Cape Town is expected to reach a high of 14°C, while Port Elizabeth is expecting a high of 20°C and Durban a maximum of 28°C.
