Having drawn flak for its reluctance in rescheduling examinations, the University of Kerala on Monday conceded the demand by a section of students to postpone examinations in view of the hardships faced by those in flood-hit areas.
The university has decided to postpone all examinations scheduled to be conducted from September 4 to 15. The revised schedule will be announced later, sources said. The earlier decision of the varsity to go ahead with the second-semester examinations of the three-year LLB professional course, which had been scheduled to commence on Tuesday, had come under criticism.
This was despite the university deciding to postpone the examinations of all undergraduate (UG) and distance education courses a few days ago.
Some students of the six affiliating law colleges in Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam, who hailed from Idukki, Alappuzha and Pathanamthitta, urged the authorities to postpone the examinations, citing the various difficulties they had faced in the flood-affected areas. The circumstances that prevailed in the region was not conducive to prepare for the examinations.
University sources maintained the view that the situation did not warrant the postponement of examinations.
They claimed that almost all of the students were hosteliers and that the examinations had been announced on August 6, ensuring they had adequate time of preparation.
An official said that the UG examinations had been postponed in view of a request made by the Director of Collegiate Education so as to enable the students to take part in the ongoing cleaning efforts in the affected areas.

A directive issued from the office of the Chief Minister is learnt to have led the university to postpone all examinations at the eleventh hour.
