HISAR: Children of Dalits families in Mirchpur village of Hisar have still not started going to schools and colleges even nine days after the Delhi high court overturned the acquittal of 21 accused in the caste violence case. The 21 convicts, who were out on bail, are yet to surrender.
With the police also yet to arrest the convicts, the tension is only mounting in the village and young students are forced to stay indoors. Even the
Dalit youth going to Hisar college have stopped attending their classes, fearing they could face attacks from the relatives of the upper caste residents of the village who were convicted by the Delhi HC.
About two dozen Dalit youths of Mirchpur have also moved since the court ruling.
Elderly Dalit resident of the village Jai Prakash said there was tension in the village as those convicted had not yet surrendered. He said due to the fear, parents were forcing their children to stay home.
Two young Dalit college students Rohit and Somnath said they were also spending most of their time indoor. Both said that due to tension in the village, a lot of young people from their community had shifted to their relatives’ places.
On Monday, Jat community members of Mirchpur went to Koth Kalan village to discuss the Delhi high court verdict. Koth Kalan
sarpanch Chandi Ram told TOI a meeting was scheduled at the Narnaund police station and he had told his son Rajesh to attend that. Rajesh said the police had convened the meeting four-five days ago but later cancelled it and he did not get any information about the Monday's meeting.
On the other hand, Narnaund station house officer (SHO) Sadhu Ram denied there was any meeting held in the police station. He said he was in Mirchpur. When asked about arresting the convicts the SHO said there were no raids being conducted. He said whenever someone surrendered, the media would be informed.
