Taking note of reports about inmates falling sick, the Guv Baby Rani Maurya made a surprise visit to Nari Niketan located at Kedarpuram on Monday. The sudden arrival of the Guv took the administration by surprise and senior officials of administration and health department rushed to the State-run shelter home. The Guv during her stay talked to the inmates and inquired into their health. Taking exception to the presence of a male supervisor engaged in construction-related works in Nari Niketan compound, Maurya said that the female supervisor should replace him.

About two dozen inmates of Nari Niketan complained of vomiting and fever on Sunday after which a team of the health deptt visited the place and their treatment started.

During her visit, the Guv directed the chief medical officer, Dehradun, Dr S K Gupta and SDM Sadar, Pratyush Singh to ensure that all the inmates are taken care of. She said that both of them should give a monthly report to her on the condition of the inmates of the home. The Guv also inquired into the quality of the food being served in the home and tasted it herself. She directed that a mechanism to check the quality of food for the inmates should be set into place. The Guv also directed the CMO that a lady doctor should check the medical condition of the inmates every Friday.

Later, talking to The Pioneer, CMO of Dehradun, Dr S K Gupta said that 4 inmates were admitted in the Government Doon Medical College Hospital and all of them are recovering now.
