GURUGRAM: A
college bus caught fire near Huda City Metro station on Tuesday but no one was hurt. There were no students in the
bus at the time of the accident and the driver jumped off the bus before it was gutted.
According to police, the fire was from a
short circuit in the engine.
At 6.30am, Rajbir Yadav, a bus driver with Guru Dronacharya College of Engineering, Farrukhnagar, filled CNG in the bus and was driving back from Huda City Centre to the college when he noticed a spark in the engine.
S K Yadav, assistant professor of the college, said, “According to his daily routine, the driver filled CNG near Huda City Centre and drove a few metres before noticing a spark in the engine. He immediately jumped off the bus and saved himself.”
The fire department reached the spot and took half an hour to douse the fire. “Two fire tenders were rushed to the spot but by the time we reached, the bus had been gutted. The driver jumped off the moving bus after seeing the spark and the bus travelled a few more metres before coming to a halt,” said Ramesh Saini, the additional fire officer.
According to the fire officials, they inspected the bus and found out that the handle of the emergency door was broken. “There were no students inside the bus at the time but with the handle of the emergency door broken, a major accident could have happened. However, the CNG kit of the bus was intact,” said a fire officer.
The road transport authority (RTA) officials inspected the vehicle in the afternoon and found everything up to the mark. “All prescribed norms had been followed. A report will be handed over to the authorities concerned,” said a senior RTA official.
Arvind Kumar, SHO, Sushant Lok police station, said, “The fire was from a short circuit. There has been no FIR but a police complaint has been filed in the case.”
