Repeated complaints to officials and online complaints on the BBMP app have not yielded results

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is yet to complete work on a stormwater drain (SWD) in HSR Layout even though the road was dug up almost a year ago.

Residents of HSR Layout 9th Main Road said that repeated complaints to local BBMP officials and online complaints on the BBMP Sahaaya app have not yielded results. The road, which has both residential houses and commercial establishments, has been dug up in parts, and residents said they have been unable to bring their vehicles out.

“The work started soon after the flooding of HSR Layout during the rains in August 2017. Both sides of the road were dug up, in some places right in front of the gates of houses. We have not take out our car for a year. We access our house through a small exit behind the site,” said Veena Sonwalkar, a resident of 9th Main Road.

“The problem also exists on 5th Main Road where the BBMP dug up the road a year ago,” said B.N.R. Reddy, chairman, Federation of HSR Layout Residents Welfare Association. “Only 50% of the work has been completed in one year. We have made repeated complaints to the BBMP about both the roads, but no action has been initiated,” he said.

Ward 174 councillor Gurumurthy Reddy said that work was now being taken up at a fast pace. “There were some issues with financial approval because of which there were delays. Now, it has been sorted out. Work should be completed in a couple of days,” he said.
