Ahmedabad: Some 186 cops had been issued notices in the last 11 month, for being overweight. Most of these rotund policemen are from police stations in the eastern parts of the city. Yadav said during police station visits he found that these policemen — of whom 13 are sub-inspectors and 173 are of assistant sub-inspector, head constable and constable ranks — to be grossly overweight.

“Many of the policemen who were given notices were heavier than 100kg and had massive pot bellies. About 40% took the warning seriously and lost more than 10kg, while another 40% seem to reduced their flab,” added Yadav.

Yadav said policemen are motivated to lose weight with a cash reward of Rs 100.

Some 32 of the cops issued notices were serving at Ramol police station in eastern Ahmedabad.

“Khokhra has 10 overweight cops, Isanpur 10, Vatva GIDC 12, Dariapur has 15 and Gomtipur 17,” added Yadav.
