Revision of photo electoral rolls to be held till October 31

As per the draft electoral rolls released here on Saturday, the Union Territory has 9,54062 voters, including 5,02,419 women and 4,51,557 men voters.

Addressing a press conference, Chief Electoral Officer V. Candavelou said as many as 13,318 voters were deleted and 7,588 added.

Puducherry with 23 Assembly segments has 7,30,367 voters and Karaikal with 5 constituencies has 1,51,079 voters. While Yanam has 3,6748 electors, Mahe has 30138 voters.

Ozhukarai with 39218 has the largest number of voters, whil Orleanpeth with 23652 has the lowest number of electors.

Since the Election Commission has decided to use VVPATs along with EVMs in all the polling stations during the ensuing general election to the Lok Sabha, the Chief Electoral Office has directed rationalisation of all polling stations in the Union Territory.

The rationalisation had resulted increase in an increase of polling stations from 930 to 970, Mr Candavelou said.

In separate release, the District Election Office said a special summary revision of photo electoral rolls would conducted in all the 25 constituencies in Puducherry, Yanam and Mahe till October 31.
