PANAJI: In an effort to minimise the use of paper, the state election commission will now be registering new voters online. Goa chief electoral officer (CEO) Kunal on Saturday said that citizens should register for voter IDs online so that there is zero personal interface.

“We have two websites for the convenience of the public so that they can register online. Citizens should come out in huge numbers to use the online platform. There should be zero personal interference. We will ensure that the applications are processed properly,” he said, while speaking at an event in Panaji.

The election commission released a document containing vital election information at the event.

Additional CEO Narayan Navthi placed the responsibility of ensuring online registrations on electoral registration officers (ERO). “Whoever has the highest number of online applications will be felicitated so that they can set an example for their successors,” he said.

“We want perfection in both administration and interpersonal relationship,” Navthi said, adding that in this respect they will soon start training block-level officers (BLOs) to ensure uniformity in performance.

Kunal also urged persons with dual registration to cancel one of their voter’s ID. “Through BLOs and face recognition software, we are trying to proactively find such people. It is unethical and a crime to have your name registered in two places,” he said.
