A couple renovating a property have fallen victim to a “bizarre break in” which saw burglars flee empty handed - and empty-bowelled.
The pair, who do not want to be named, said their unoccupied home in Bryntirion Drive, Prestatyn was targeted at around 11pm last night by what they assume were thieves looking for tools.
But the offenders fled after triggering an alarm, with one leaving a pile of human waste outside.
The homeowner, who spoke out to warn other residents to be on their guard, said: “We have been renovating the property for a couple of years now.
“The house has a monitored alarm so we we’re alerted of it immediately and were there within 15 minutes.
“Nothing was taken. It’s a building site at the moment, but it is kept clean and clear of tools.”
She added: “The burglars got in through an old window.

“As soon as they entered the property, the alarm would have triggered, which, I suspect, they were not expecting.
“They made their way out of a set of bi-folding doors and took the keys with them so we’ve had to change the locks.
“They left a ‘dirty protest,’ urinating and defecating outside the property, which we think was possibly left by the look-out person.
“It’s bizarre. We think they were looking for tools to sell and didn’t expect the house to be alarmed. But who knows? It’s definitely very strange.”
The woman claims a neighbour spotted a man acting suspiciously in the Meliden Road/ St Elmo’s Drive area.
The incident has been reported to the police and scenes of crime officers have been carrying out investigations today.
The woman added: “We just want to make people in the surrounding area aware.
“Everything is now secure at the house but we wanted to urge residents to take care and report anything suspicious.”
No arrests have yet been made.
