The district administration has created a ‘single window system’ at the Paramakudi Sub-Collector Office to accord permission for installing flex boards and posters at Paramakudi in connection with the 61st death anniversary of freedom fighter and Dalit activist Immanuel Sekaran on September 11.
As thousands of Devendra Kula Vellalars and others from different scheduled caste sub-castes are expected to throng Immanuel Sekaran’s memorial at Paramakudi to pay homage, the district administration has also released a set of 25 ‘do’s and don’ts’ to ensure that the event passed off peacefully.
Announcing the 25 decisions taken after he and Superintendent of Police Omprakash Meena had a meeting with officials of various departments and community leaders on Sunday, Collector K. Veera Raghava Rao said flex boards and posters would be allowed only for three days on September 9, 10 and 11 in Paramakudi that too after prior permission from the authorities.
He said municipality, police and revenue officials would be present at the Paramakudi Sub-Collector Office, exclusively for the purpose of granting permission.
The applicants should submit the applications on September 5, 6 and 7, he said, adding the officials would scrutinise them and grant permission within 24 hours.
‘Jothi’, milk pot and ‘mulaipari’ processions would be allowed only for one km from the memorial on September 11, he said.
All the events at the memorial should be over by 4 p.m. on September 11, the Collector said, adding leaders of registered political parties, who had prior permission to pay homage at the memorial, should stick to the time slots allotted to them. They should obtain prior permission from his office by September 8 and their convoys should not have more than three vehicles, Mr. Rao said.
Like last year, hired vehicles would be banned from carrying volunteers to the memorial, he said. The volunteers are also banned from visiting the memorial on two-wheelers, tractors, Tata ace and bi-cycles, he said.
Those who were coming in their own vehicles (four-wheelers) should obtain vehicle passes from the DSP offices in their respective regions. Additional buses would be operated for one day on September 11 for the benefit of volunteers in villages, he said.
