Perth mum speaks out after her son was driven off in stolen car
The family of a two-year-old boy who was in a car when it was stolen from a Perth home on Saturday morning say they are so thankful for the quick response by the public and the police.
The child in the stolen vehicle was a two-year-old boy named Ryan.
Police say just after 11:55am on Saturday the green/grey Holden Commodore sedan (pictured) was stolen from a home in Gala Way, Forrestfield.
At the time the vehicle was stolen, Ryan was inside.
Police say he was found outside a supermarket about 10 minutes later near the corner of Edinburgh Road and Lincoln Road, Forrestfield.
Police have since said that the stolen vehicle arrived at the supermarket, stopped, and Ryan was pushed out of one of the back doors.
The vehicle then drove off. Members of the public then went to help Ryan and called police.
A statement released by Ryan’s mother on Saturday said: “On behalf of our family we would like to thank the police, the media and the members of the community who helped share the messages about Ryan on social media.
"Particularly, we would like to thank the people who came to Ryan’s assistance when he was left outside the supermarket. The quick response from everyone involved has resulted in us having Ryan back in our arms and we can’t thank everyone enough.”
The stolen vehicle was spotted by police driving on Gooseberry Hill Road, Gooseberry Hill on Saturday afternoon.
The vehicle, which appears to be damaged, has been abandoned on that road and the driver has fled on foot.
A large police presence is in the area and the search for the driver is continuing.
More to come.
