A 13-year-old boy who went missing on Monday was found dead in a canal on Wednesday, the police said on Friday.
Prima facie, the cause of death is drowning, they said.
DCP (South) Vijay Kumar said Class VII student Sumit Gupta was reported missing by his parents on Monday at Sangam Vihar Police Station.
The Class VII student was found dead by Pul Prahaladpur police on Wednesday. However, the parents were informed about the death on Thursday. They alleged that the police did not take the matter seriously. The family said they lodged a missing complaint after Sumit did not return from school on Monday.
A case under Section 363 (punishment for kidnapping) of the IPC was registered at Sangam Vihar police station. While looking for the boy, the family reached Pul Prahaladpur police station where they were informed about the death on Thursday. While the family suspects foul play, Mr. Kumar said they are probing the case from all angles. “The preliminary post-mortem report states that he died of drowning. However, the matter is under investigation and CCTV footage of the area is being scanned. We are checking who he was last seen with,” the officer said.
